ABOUT HUGIN VIKINGS FC

BORN TO COMPETE

Hugin Vikings Football Club was formed in 1995 by Maureen Fiander. The club name comes from the Viking Ship on permanent display on the cliff top at Pegwell Bay which is a replica of the Viking ship Hugin, which sailed from Denmark to Thanet in 1949 to celebrate the 1500th anniversary of the Viking invasion of Britain.
The club began after a set of goalposts mysteriously appeared one night on the Cliffsend Village Green. The goalposts were duly returned to their rightful owners and the village council agreed to the local children's pleas for somewhere safe to play football and purchased a set of goalposts to be permanently situated on the green.

The councils funding only stretched as far as the goalposts and it was left to the children to raise funds for the purchase of nets and pitch markings. Maureen offered her help and advice and Hugin Vikings FC was born!

The club started off with friendly matches against other local youngsters to make the club the happy community focussed outfit it is today.
Our mission and vision has not changed throughout the years - We aim to provide children and adults of all backgrounds and abilities the opportunity to get involved with football, whether it's playing, coaching or helping run the club.

We also have an ambition to give something back to the community that supports us. We have our own ground which we have secured on a long term lease from Kent County Council and we'd love to be able to build our own clubhouse and provide leisure and recreational facilities not just for the Football Club Members but also for the wider Thanet community.
